Some kind of evil magic wants Perser dead. Perser now knows it has to do with the magical sword his wizard grandfather, now deceased, fashioned and gifted him when a ten year old. Perser also knows that the magic infused in the sword through the wizard was meant to do something...if only Perser knew what his grandfather intended! As a script which appears on the sword is an ancient elven script Perser feels he must go to the 'Golden City' - Chanrelah - to have it deciphered. Bit of a problem that...the evil magic is apparently from the Southern Expanse and the continent is overrun by the goblins now making war on the humans, elves, and dwarves. However, Perser has other problems such as how is he to get to the Southern Expanse. He has no money. And, most unfortunate for Perser his friends, Ben Taran the elf, Shan-Caudl the Cherf and Willex the giant have their own adventure and cannot accompany Perser, the Man of the Sword. This is serious...well, if that was true then how come there's so much humor in this, the second installment of Perser's quest? PS: the translations of the exhumed mss continue and more stories in the Atlantean Cycles will be brought out in due time.
