Andrew Lang (1844 – 1912) was a Scots poet, novelist, literary critic, and contributor to the field of anthropology. He is best known as a collector of folk and fairy tales. The Andrew Lang lectures at the University of St Andrews are named after him. Lang was also a prolific author of works both fiction and non.
The Silent Princess is a fairy tale, included in the Andrew Lang’s Olive Fairy Book. The narrative follows a young boy, the only son of a Turkey pasha. The kid was adored by his father, he was always getting away with spending all his time in playing games, instead of education. And it did not play out well for the boy. One day, when he gave in the game with his favorite golden ball, he accidentally crashed an old woman’s pitcher. In anger, she cursed him to fall in love with a silent princess.
