The Risen: Dawning, Anniversary Edition, is the first zombie apocalypse novel in The Risen series by author Marie F Crow. The author uses a descriptive writing style to paint the scenes and moods of the characters. She feels this style enhances the content delivering the zombie apocalypse story in true regard to her creative concept.

It has been one year since the beginning of this journey. I am deeply honored by all of my fans who have embraced The Risen series. You have expressed to me your favorite characters and the connections you find with them. I feel this series is special in that it embraces the human element as well as the telling of classical horror.

As a “thank you” to all my fans it is my pleasure to introduce The Risen: Dawning, Anniversary Edition. This book contains a variety of scenes and character depth not included in the original version.

Synopsis:

Helena Hawthorn has lived her entire life in the dark shadow of her perfect younger siblings, The Hawthorn Angels. Now as the world awakens to a new horror, she will have to risk everything to keep them safe or forever be haunted by the failure to keep them alive. Each day will bring a new victory, or a new scar, as Helena learns that the dawn waits for no one.

With her newly bonded family, the local motorcycle club G.R.I.T., they will discover the world now holds much deeper horrors for them than they could have ever imagined. The Risen not only stalk the earth but stalk their nightmares as well.

Comments from fans about Marie F Crow's zombie apocalypse series:

"FINALLY!!!!! A zombie story that I LIKE!!!!"

"Freakishly awesome!"

"From the beginning to the end...THIS is an amazing zombie apoc story."

"I mean...Zombies...Bikers...the Paranormal? YES PLEASE!"

"With zombie books, one of the greatest pleasures is to be able to get that chill up your spine as you embrace the apocalyptic chaos and atmosphere of death, destruction and despair. That is exactly what Crow does here, she paints the sublime with her words and in doing so creates a lovely and violent story where you can feel each chapter viscerally through her deep descriptions."

"The writing is so descriptive, you feel like you're directly involved in the scene, wanting to scream and run with no place to go but to close the book, but you can't. It's a true page turner. I so can't wait to see what this author has next for us in store. Highly recommend this read!!!"

"Zombie novels are a dime a dozen, and it's almost comical how many there are. We lost the innate fear that zombies have the power to create. But not in this book; this book harkens back to a George A Romero zombie movie, a classic. Not in the plot, but as a real horror story, giving us chills, and sticking with us. Filling our minds with the wonderfully created terror that oh so few authors have the ability to grasp. She gives us the gore that so often has been ignored. Zombie and gore go hand in hand, and I'm glad to see an author who truly understands that."

"Marie F Crow will be a force to be reckoned with in the very near future, this I can already see..."

"An absolute thrill ride throughout, this book will have you flippin the pages, looking over your shoulder at every noise, and reading with the lights on!"

"Kudos to Marie F Crow for such a fantastic read!"

A world of fragile things, isn't that how they describe winter? It’s a time when things slow down. When we isolate ourselves from the dark, seeking only the shelter of our families and the warmth they provide. A space of time when the night comes sooner and the dawns seem brighter. Months where our dreams are sparked with the yearnings for miracles and stories are shared of times gone by. Yes, that is how I remember winter.

I have a deep well of winters from which to drink. I hold memories of lighted trees and homes glimmering in the dark. I hold the smells of the holidays inside me. I can still hear melodies inspired to bring hope and goodwill, reminding us of the magic of miracles we choose to forget during the year. I remember the rush of children's joy as the first snowfall covers the world in a virginal haze. I remember laughter. I miss that sound the most.

Sound is a weapon now. It is something hidden and shrouded with fear and dread.  There are no more lighted trees or glimmering dreams among us. Smells have become dank and smothered with loneliness. Our songs are now of silence and deaths. They inspire only regrets. It inspires the type of remorse lurking in the deep dark of your memories.

This is our winter now. This is our life. The nights are too dark. The dawn is too soon. Our nightmares walk among us and we are all wide-awake.

About the Author:

Marie F Crow is the author of the post-apocalyptic series, The Risen. She weaves her stories around the human element of the horror verses the "monsters" themselves. She believes that the real horror of life does not come from the expected, but from the unexpected responses of the human nature and what depths of trauma a person has to survive in certain situations. She began writing The Risen series when feeling that the popular genre was slipping too deep into the realm of pure "slasher" and forgetting what the horror of zombies can mean for a story.

Now with her children's series launched, Marie hopes to use her favorite "monster" as a teaching tool to inspire children to understand that not everything that looks scary, is scary. With Abigail and Her Pet Zombie series, Marie hopes to further spread her love for all things "that go bump in the night" with small children showing them that it's okay to be different and to embrace those same differences in those around them.

Reviews:

"This was a great book. One of the better zombie books I've read in a while, Fast paced, great characters. I really liked that this one was a little different and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The characters were easy to like though at times I must admit to want to whap them upside their heads just for good measure. That's how much this story sucks you in. It’s a must read for any Zombie fan. It definitely kept my attention the whole time. It’s definitely for mature readers but really enjoyed it and it stayed true to its genre." ~E. Doherty

"The Risen: Dawning takes us on a spine-tingling, hair-raising journey of zombies and horror. This was not just any zombie book though, this is one that will fill your nightmares for nights on end. The descriptive phrases that Marie F. Crow engages a reader and puts then "in" the scene like they are there in the flesh.

"The smell of the house washes me in its perfume of crisp lemons and soft, subtle vanilla."

A reader can smell the scenes, see the action, and hear the horror that is going on. The writer captivates us with her action-filled, high-intensity, build up of scenes.

"Something that makes my heart speed up and my brain slow down. I can feel the shiver of something I should be aware of caress me." Ooooh, spooky!

This kind of writing keeps me wanting more, flipping through the pages, and begging for sequels. This is nothing short of a 5-star read. You will never second guess yourself. (Unless you have trouble falling asleep.) Beware!" ~R. Hansen
