Hans Christian Andersen was born in Denmark in 1805. From childhood he wrote some plays for his own puppet-show. Also, he wrote some articles for local newspapers and magazines. Although he was a writer of plays, travelogues, novels and poems, Andersen is best remembered for his fairy tales. Andersen's fairy tales were translated into more than 125 languages. “The Quickest Runners” is a fairy-tale which tells us a story about a speed competition between the inhabitants of the forest. A hare, a snail, a swallow and a fly are arguing who should get the 1st and the 2nd prize. Each of them deserves it. A mule is a judge of the competition. Being very wise he clinches an argument.
