The year is 1984 and it is early Fall in the quiet southern town of Pleasantville, North Carolina. Detective David Rhoades, a man hardened by years of homicide work as well as personal tragedies, had been spending the summer breaking in a new partner, Detective Sheila Booth. Sheila is fresh from the academy with high marks, good looks, and a dedication to learning all she can from Detective Rhoades. Neither of them is prepared for the serial killings that soon have Pleasantville's citizens holding their breath for the next murder. Not everyone in town has to worry; only members of a perverted secret society are being killed. The killer's calling card is a message written with the victim's blood at the murder scenes that reads "FOR THE CHILDREN" and the victims know exactly why they were chosen.
Detective Rhoades' own son Trevor was abducted from his back yard eight years ago and the case remains unsolved. This makes it difficult for Detective Rhoades to stay committed to his job of finding a killer when he could care less about the murder victims. Detectives Rhoades suddenly finds himself torn between his dedication to the serial killins investigation and his new lover, court report Liz Andrews. She brings a joy to his life that David hasn't felt in years and would do anything to keep her in his life. The killer obtains a list of the Adult Child Love Association at a murder scene and the police also have the list from the computer at the scene. It is a race to see who will be next on the list and will the killer be caught before they finish: The murder spree in Pleasantville is opening all the old wounds that Detective Rhoades has spent years trying to heal. Suddenly, David will find himself in a twisted world where is own sense of right and wrong are tested way beyond what he believes he can bear,
