The Marking is a standalone book in a series of stories taken from the Case Files of International Investigations and Protection Services Inc. The IIPIS office receives a mysterious and anonymous phone call concerning a young girl, unconscious and badly abused lying in an abandoned warehouse. The agency partners, Rob Henderson and Heath Barton investigate and decide to take the girl back to their premises, so they can find out what happened, before they bring the police into the situation.
When she regains consciousness they discover that she is the foster daughter of a couple who are involved in the occult. They have been torturing her in “preparation” for some sort of ritual. She also has an unusual tattoo.
The main characters:
Robert (Rob) Henderson – Tall, dark, intense wealthy Alpha man, known as one of the better detectives in the business. His spouse - Larissa Marie Bray (Rissa or Riss)
Heath Barton – He too is a tall, dark wealthy Alpha man, more Intense than Rob, known as the best detective in the business and a workaholic.
His spouse - Allison Faith Anderson (Alli)
Billy (Bill) Jennings (Cop) 24 years old His eyes so dark they look black and so is his hair with a bit longer at back an Crissie (Criss) Jennings 21 years old (Children’s aid worker) they are brother and sister
Riley Wilson -- The girl they found unconscious in the warehouse
Nettie – Riley’s foster mother, a strange lady with a Cajun accent that comes and goes suspected of being involved in the occult.
Her husband, George. They are both in their late forties or early fifties.
Neil Brooks -- Riley’s brother -- they had the same mother and different fathers
Mantawk (Mon-tok) -- a demon
Gradually Riley's story is revealed and Rob and Heath decide on a showdown with the demon and her acolytes once and for all.
There is plenty of romance along the way, some of it predictable, some unexpected.
This is not your average paranormal story.
