In the fourth book of the Skilled Investigators series, Genef and Rath head for the coastal village, Cave, where Rath grew up, to investigate some suspicious deaths. Fel eventually joins them, with a group of assorted teenagers he is tutoring, and explores his growing feelings for Rath. Scratch meets a member of his own family, besides becoming an accredited member of The Guild, though his actions are occasionally a hindrance rather than a help. Genef gains confidence in her abilities and her use of her skills but faces great danger. The village suffers upheaval caused by more than one criminal, but in the end the investigators return to Lonis leaving justice done and Rath’s family at peace.
