An epic love story and meditation on Taoism inspired by the burial suits of China's Han dynasty and ranging through China's history from the life of the first emperor of China, Shih Huang Di, to the events of Tianmenn Square. Lou Sheng and his wife Tou Wan are buried together in jade burial suits. Their spirits are separated and go on separate journeys through history from the birth of the Chinese state to the modern day, where they finally come together again just before their tomb is discovered. The author has tried to convey the styles and rhythms of Chinese poetry within the constraints of English, and there are textual notes about poetry and the references to Taoist ideas as well as historical events.
