The average person who lives through a traumatic experience feels the impact of that experience for months, time being the primary source of alleviation. Why is it then that our first responders are expected to bounce back from the traumas they see over and over again, without any consideration given for the detrimental way such repetitive exposure impacts them at their very cores? The HEROES Project began as a determined effort to fill a massive gap in the way we protect the protectors. After a seven years, the research is ready to share. This intervention program combines military training, writing therapy, and positive psychology and is user-friendly enough for the individual or the forward-thinking organization interested in mitigating risk by serving those who serve others first.
