The Growth of the Person: Psychology on Trial

Grace M.H. Gayle, PhD, presents a critique of developmental and relational issues in psychology in the context of a multi model elaborated to explain the Christian view of human experience. The work insists that the study of psychology be carried out within the framework of, and with deference to, Christianity as practised in the mystical Church described as faithful and keeping the word of His patience. “The most compelling premise underlying every argument or disposition in this work… takes the form of the uncompromising acceptance of Jesus Christ as the ‘express image of the Person of God.’” For psychology to be sound, it must be based on the need for the centrality of Christ in human personality. As a scientific study of the person, therefore, psychology is found guilty of serious errors, inadequacies and omissions. Psychology on Trial is intended primarily for undergraduate and graduate students in Bible Colleges, faculties of Psychology/Education and departments of Counselling/Psychotherapy without necessarily bypassing the interest of the general public. 

Dr. Grace M.H. Gayle, associated with the University of Ottawa as a full-time professor since 1978, taught psychology at the graduate level for over seventeen years. Prior to that, she was a Research Officer in psycholinguistics at OISE, University of Toronto, and taught second languages at the senior school level. Dr. Gayle has published in many academic journals including the Alberta Journal of Educational Research, the Canadian Modern Language Review and Religious Education. Throughout her varied career she has sought to apply biblical truth to her research, thought and writing.
