The Gold House trilogy documents the saga of Victorio Peak, a remote mountain on White Sands Missile Range in New Mexico. Volume 3, Executive Order, describes how a dream come true for the rightful owners of the treasure—the heirs of those who discovered it in 1937—turned into a nightmare. Granted permission by President George H.W. Bush to return to the site from which the family of Doc and Ova Noss had been banned for 35 years, members of the search team found themselves straitjacketed by officials on the site and unable to carry out their mission. Executive Order describes a surreal sequence of intimidating behavior that played out against the Noss family, including false and deliberate overbillings, illegal changes to an agreed-upon contract, lies, coercion and intimidation.
