Six-year-old Benjamin Harris is about to have a father for the first time in his life. You see, he’s been in the foster care system ever since he was born. But, today, all that changes, when Raymond Bannister walks through the door. Raymond is an older fellow with a cool car and a warm smile, and he just signed the final paperwork to officially become Ben’s father.

Ben says goodbye to foster care, and hello to a new life. That is, until he walks into his new house and the door slams shut behind him. Daddy isn’t quite what he expected in a father, and on the first night, while Ben's fast asleep on his bed, he hears a noise. With a click of the mini-flashlight attached to his keychain, he shines the light down the end of his bed and finds Rory— a dead boy. But Rory's not alone— he has friends—and soon, Ben will meet every last one of them. If he wants to survive, he’ll have to do exactly what they say.

Young Ben will come face-to-face with evil and death in this fast-paced, short story, about a young boy, the man who adopted him, and the ghosts that live and breathe at 1428 Johnson Ave.
