This book describes the fishing industry at Port Isaac from the days of sail until the mid1960s when wooden boats began to be replaced with fibreglass. It includes details on fishing methods, superstitions, characters, seasonal fisheries, the weather, coastal marks, myths and legends, hardship, local sayings and a list of fishing boats and their owners and masters. Difficulties working such a hazardous port are also explained. The author, being from a local fishing family, spent his early years working on his family boats at Port Isaac gaining valuable experience. He also lived with the traditional local community whose character has now changed forever due to the expansion of the holiday industry and the advent of second homes and holiday homes replacing cottages once occupied by locals. This book features 135 historic photos to illustrate the text.
