After witnessing the murder of her grandmother, she finds herself in a battle to defend not only her freedom, but her very life when an evil force seeks to use her Gift for their own political schemes. Entrusting her safety to a brooding and mysterious fire-starter, she must travel the length of the kingdom of Aerlann to save not only herself, but the Old Ways of life before the magic of the spirits is lost forever.
