Hereward the Unawake, the Lord of the fenland faeries wakes from a spell after 900 years to find his watery kingdom drained and under the plough. There are few traces of his old wild kingdom of marshes and fens. Hereward mobilises every renegade faerie to return the land to its former state, driving out the humans and their farms.
Ben Williams, a half faerie, and Oswald Gotobed, local Chemist and High Wizard to the RUFS, try to thwart Hereward's plans. They face the terrors of the Unsealie Court, Madam Whiplash, the Faerie Feller and an evil host to try to save the land.
The waters of Inland lakes are magically stolen to flood the fens, Rutland Water is drained and transported to the area, rivers are blocked to cause terrible flooding and violent storms add to the chaos as the faeries interfere with the weather.
Ben, Oswald and their friends fight to save their homes.
