The Camp of Al-Morca

by Jabir Khalifa Jabir

The Camp of Al-Morca was written by Jabir Khalifa Jabir, an Iraqi novelist, and has been translated into English by Fawziya Mousa Ghanim.

Jabir was born in 1957 and has an M.A. in history. He is one of the founders of the Literary Group of Basra. This novel exposes the historical, social, cultural, political period of Muslims in Andulas at the time of its decline. In an artistic and a unique way of writing, the author shows the Morscan’s tragedy under the region of Spanish King Ferdinand V. Jabir uses the technique of a confession, as if he has received the novel from the ancestor’s narrators until it passed hundreds of years to be in the hand of Amar Ishbelìo.

It has been confessed that it was transferred to him by another narrator (one of his ancestors), who had lived over four centuries. His name was Amar Ishbelio, too. As Ishbelio was not the first, he was also not the real writer of the novel, as was mentioned by his nephew, the last Ishbelio. The first Amar Ishbelio also didn’t mention exactly if Hamad Alandoulasy was the author of the novel, so is he the brother of Hamad Ibin Kamareen? Or he is the son of his sister, Canary?

No one has known how this novel has passed hundreds years to arrive at the hands of the last Amar Ishbelio.

For these reasons, and to keep the attention of the reader, Fawziya Mousa Ghanim proclaims that he is the author of the novel, and has put his name on its cover.

About the Translator

Fawziya Mousa Ghanim, a translator, accidently received the novel when she attended the session at College of Languages-University of Baghdad. She admired its remarkable title and issue.
