Jake Hunter is an ex-Army sniper with several combat tours in Afghanistan behind him. He is now working on his doctoral thesis in Meteorology. He applies for a job manning an isolated cabin gathering weather data for the government.

After he has settled in for the winter, a surprise visitor, a young woman, who says her car is stuck in the snow below, caught in drifts while she was trying to cross the pass. She is unprepared for the primitive living conditions, and her presence throws the two of them into a survival situation. There is only food for one person.

She soon reveals a secret of great import concerning why she was on the road below the cabin during a storm. This places both of them in mortal danger, and gives them more to worry about than being hungry.
