Carter MacGillis is Head Video Game Programmer at Cyclone Games, and insecure around women to the extreme. At a gala for the release of the company's new game, he meets Misty, who is so far out of his league that he isn't even nervous around her like he is with most women. Then he finds out she's the wife of his boss, Luther Davis, and any attraction he might have felt for her flies out the window. A few days later, Misty calls him for lunch. Figuring it can't hurt to buddy up to the boss's wife, he agrees. They meet several times as friends, but Carter soon realizes Misty wants more from him than friendship. He fights his growing feelings for her due to her marriage, though Misty is purposely making it very difficult for him.
When Carter confronts her about her behavior, he discovers she isn't Davis' wife, but his mistress, and she's been unhappy for months. Thrilled that she's free- mostly- Carter takes her to bed, beginning a steamy affair.
Strong feelings quickly develop on both sides, and Carter finds he doesn't like sharing her, even if she is only Davis' mistress in public. When he boldly approaches her about leaving Davis and making their relationship official, Misty is forced to make a decision: Stay with the man who's taken care of her for so long, or leave his controlling hand for the man who makes her feel like the woman she wants to be?
