Bright, kind, witty Maime has lived most of her 83 years in Berkeley, California, earning two masters degrees at Cal and the love of her late husband and close friends. But the recession has taken its toll on her, as has time, and she taps her favorite resource -- a love of sewing -- to make ends meet so she can live the rest of her days in her longtime home. Enter a married couple of real estate attorneys who, with a nasty combination of legal savvy and lack of scruples, move into the house next door and conspire to paint Maime as a dishonest homeowner so they can devalue her property and resell it for a profit. When Maime realizes their scheme, she enlists her brother, her longtime neighbors, friends, customers -- and, ulimately, the entire activist community of Berkeley -- to expose and expel her Neighbors from Hell.
