A finalist for the Czech Book Award, this novel parallels Occupy Wall Street with the early twentieth-century anarchist movement and is based on true story of Lithuanian Jew Alexander Berkman who immigrated to America, became the lover of Emma Goldman, was imprisoned for the attempted assassination of Pittsburg industrialist Henry C. Frick, edited Goldman’s Mother Earth magazine, and was eventually deported to the USSR where he became disillusioned with the Bolshevik revolution.

Magdaléna Platzová was inspired to write this book after witnessing the Occupy protests while living in New York. Fluent in English, she has given talks throughout the US, including recent appearances at the New Literature from Europe Festival in New York, Center for the Art of Translation in San Francisco, and the Schusterman Center for Jewish Studies at the University of Texas in Austin.

The award-winning translator Alex Zucker is renowned for his translations of Czech literature and will actively promote the book.
