This is the surprisingly fresh but true story of a middle class Colombian with great aspirations, who decided to pursue his dream to travel to the United States and conquer the "American Dream" for himself. Leaving family and friends behind, Hernando Blanco obtained his visa to travel, contacted family members in the United States to enlist their assistance and flew by himself into his future.
His desire to improve himself put him in situations where he had to make decisions that molded his future—day by day and year by year. From his first job, selling encyclopedias in East Los Angeles, to flying in corporate jets of an international company from Delaware to other places in the United States and back into Latin America—even to his homeland of Colombia. His life in the United States has been a succession of triumphs and failures which made him question the wisdom of his own decisions.
In his book, Hernando bares his soul to his readers and confesses the medical condition that affected his journey toward his dream. He calls it "the demon inside me," and brings attention to how he learned to manage his life so others who suffer from this same malady can come to understand there is no shame in admitting having it, only in refusing to take corrective action to compensate for it.
His life has been full of challenges and obstacles which he faced head-on and conquered with the strength of his spirit and faith in God. That continuous battle matured him without hardening him and helped him fend off the difficulties that life in the USA presents many immigrants—from whatever nation they may have come.
Follow his story, written in a simple language, to people who studied to learn English as a second language and struggled to find their place in the Land of the Free and Home of the Brave.
