Andrew Lang (1844 – 1912) was a Scots poet, novelist, literary critic, and contributor to the field of anthropology. He is best known as a collector of folk and fairy tales. The Andrew Lang lectures at the University of St Andrews are named after him. Lang was also a prolific author of works both fiction and non. “The Adventures of Haroun-al-Raschide, Caliph of Bagdad” is a short but wonderful story by Andrew Lang about Caliph of Bagdad who was anxious to observe something that could possible give him a few hours of amusement. With his best and tried friend named Giafar who was a grand-vizir they went on a journey disguised as foreign merchants. They were very pleased to watch at their own land having no idea that life is much more interesting beyond the walls of the castle.
