A fun book about hotel life in Australia
“The Adventures of Bruce from Bondi” continues the story of Bruce from Bondi whom we first met in “Adventures of a Jackeroo”, who wanted to be a trainee property manager on a sheep station. On a week’s leave from the heat and dust of Booleroo Sheep Station, Bruce returns home to his beloved Bondi. While applying to be a Life Saver Bruce meets Jane, his soon to be steady girlfriend and whose father owns the Auckland Hotel in Bondi, close by the famous beach.
Dating the publican’s daughter means Bruce is soon offered a position as a Trainee Hotel Manager, an opportunity he’s only too happy to accept. Abandoning all plans to return to the bush, Bruce grabs both the job and Jane in his hot hands, a decision he may live to regret. Learning the hotel business is the least of Bruce’s worries as his life becomes a constant struggle dealing with the demands of the hotel’s denizens. Whether it’s backing Maurie, the giant Maori in a brawl, helping old Mrs Greatley out of the bath, watching a recently departed guest come miraculously back to life or dealing with the raging thirst of the passing trade, Bruce soon learns running a hotel is not a glamorous as he thought. (Text in blue may be left out if space demands it)
“The Adventures of Bruce from Bondi” is the perfect book for anyone interested looking for belly laugh about the days when everyone drove a Holden, wages were £3 a week and the drinks were always cold at their favourite hotel by the sea.
