Drowning his sorrows at the local watering hole, Dave was chatting with his best friend and bartender, Joe, about how unfair it was that women seemed to be able to pick up guys at the drop of a hat. Joe didn’t just have some comforting words for his friend; he had a solution.

Excerpt:

"I don't get it, hoss..." Dave said as he studied the bar.

"What's that?" Joe, the bartender asked as he finished up with a customer and started cleaning one of the mugs.

"I just don't understand how women like that chick behind me there," he said, surreptitiously pointing to a beautiful blonde, "can get laid at the drop of a hat. I mean, I've been here for two whole hours and not one chick has come up to me. Two hours!"

The bartender laughed. "Reckon as far as I can see, the womenfolk want the man to be in charge and do all the singing and courting," he said in his thick, Texas drawl.

Dave nodded at his friend's advice. He was right, of course, but that didn't mean he had to like it. He'd never been one of those "alpha" types that always got the girls. Every day that he didn't have someone to cuddle up with at night ate at him.

After a few minutes of introspective silence, he followed up on his question. "I just don't get it. I'm just as fit as the rest of them."

He watched as a group of young guys sauntered in and one of the guys scanned the room, settling his sights on the beautiful blonde behind him. The one that he'd just pointed out to the bartender.

"See, Joe," he leaned forward and whispered to the bartender. "He's been here for all of two minutes and already he's cozying up with her. I'll bet if I tried that I'd either get slapped or slapped with a lawsuit." He lamented.

"Ha, I doubt that, pard," Joe set the clean glass back and grabbed another one."

"No, it's true. I've never been able to pick up a chick in all my life." He scratched his head and sighed.

"Well, maybe you're going about it all wrong. Some guys just have the right technique, you know? Another Coke?"

Dave nodded. "Sure, but why can't the women come up to a guy they like every now and then?"

He set the glass down and poured him his Coke. "Well, you know, humans are a traditional lot." Once the Coke was put away, he leaned across the bar. "To tell you the truth, buddy, I actually have seen a few of those forward women come in here."

Dave looked up at him hopefully.

Joe nodded confidently. "Yup. They had their pick of the litter, too. Hell, they weren't even that pretty, either."

"Yeah," Dave took a sip of his soda. "But what are the odds, huh? I mean, if a girl like that walked in right now she'd have a dozen guys to choose from. I just don't have that kind of charisma to attract the pretty chicks. Hell, I couldn't even attract the old, clucking hens."
