Keziah Clark grew up with parents who were religious fanatics. Her father believed that he was
the new Job, a man whose destiny it was to suffer in this life so that he might face great rewards
in the next. He forced Keziah and her mother to suffer along beside him, making her childhood a
living nightmare as she watched her mother suffer and die from Lou Gehrig’s disease while
enduring her father’s dark beliefs and his temper.
Despite the difficulties of her childhood, Keziah has devoted her life to the suffering. She is a
registered nurse who works with the chronically, and often terminally, ill. Keziah’s current
patient, Mrs. Bellamy, is a wealthy widow who has suffered a series of strokes that have left her
unable to communicate. Keziah’s days are filled with her patient’s needs and little else. Until the
day Zephon shows up.
Zephon claims to be Mrs. Bellamy’s nephew, a fact that has been confirmed by Mrs. Bellamy’s
lawyer. However, there’s something about him that leaves Keziah uncertain about his motives.
He begins to win her over, charming her with a wit and a sexual attraction she can’t resist. But
when she overhears him talking to a mysterious woman, what little trust has grown between
them is destroyed. And that’s only the tip of the iceberg. There are more secrets, secrets that
could change everything Keziah understands about the world around her.
