The inspiration behind this book came from the fight against terrorist cells in the Middle East. The United States Military forces discovered that they had to adapt their war strategy in order to be effective against these terrorists. Their adaptations in strategy proved to be massively successful and they can be applied to any organization. Especially today’s businesses and corporations.
The reason this book is called Team of Teams is because the strategy outlined in the book provides a way to turn an organization that consists of many different teams into one highly functioning team while still maintaining different departments. There are four different people who are primarily responsible for contributing to this book.
The first person is Dave Silverman who is a Naval Academy graduate, who later became a Navy Seal. The second contributor is Chris Fussell, who is also a Navy Seal. Tantum Collins was a student of leadership at Yale University when the author first met him. The primary author of this book is a man named Stanley McChrystal, who is a retired US Army General.
