Moonpie a gray, two year old feline of mixed breeding is conducting an emergency meeting in her backyard with her fellow members and friends of the Welcoming Committee, Luddie the Great Dane, Amber the Rottweiler, Sangha the Frog and Bogie the Rabbit to discuss yesterday's transgression against the Covenant of Domestication by one of their members, Elvin the Cat killed a member of the Covenant of Domestication.
Drac the leader of the River rats is informed by the Animal Catcher, that a new tom has entered the neighborhood and Moonpie chosen him as her mate. The Catcher knew the history of Drac and Moonpie. Drac, beset by Jealousies and hatred for his rival sets out to where his beloved lives in hope of getting information. He sees Fertile Myrtle, a hamster and orders her to spy on the couple.
The next day Myrtle reveals her secret order during a meeting of the Committee and Orca is warned to be on the watch for Drac who has killed two other prospective mates of Moonpie.
On the way home from the meeting, Drac the River Rat attacks Orca. Mortally injured during the fight, Orca is picked up by the Catcher. Heartbroken, Moonpie hides beneath the Whiffletree with Myrtle at her side. Mother Nature and Sangha come to see her, trying to comfort a grieving Moonpie. At the end, Mother Nature informs Moonpie, "You'll have a offspring from Orca."
Life once more is tranquil at Whiffletree Lane.
