Stephen, the Martyr, and Philip, the Evangelist

Both Stephen and Philip were appointed deacons at first. They were among the seven deacons that were appointed to help the apostles in the administration of the church that was at Jerusalem. Stephen is esteemed as the first Christian Martyr. During the persecution that arose against the Church which was at Jerusalem, Philip went down to Samaria and preached Christ to them in the demonstration of the Power of the Holy Spirit, in signs and wonders; this led to the Samaritans giving heed to what Philip said, and they accepted Jesus Christ. Philip went on as an evangelist.
