spiritwalker is a novel about a young private detective with a special ability. anna cotter can astral project. while in this out of body state she is able to move around freely. she can hear and see everything. no one is aware of her presence. anna has been hired by eva westhall to find her missing sister jane turner. the police have come to the conclusion that jane went away of her own freewill and are no longer seriously investigating the matter. eva believes otherwise and anna comes to her home near canterbury to investigate. Within hours of her arrival things begin to happen. sassy westhall, eva's young daughter is abducted. this abduction is foiled by anna, who while out of her body in spirit form, follows sassy and sees her being kidnapped. she returns to her body and alerts the westhalls. a car chase ensues and they eventually catch up with the kidnapper, he however escapes.
things hot up as anna travels to London to interview jane's friends and colleagues. sylvia cavendish a close friend of Jane's is subsequently found dead in her apartment and anna herself is attacked. the police are now beginning to sit up and take notice. the investigation is headed up by inspector morley of the canterbury police. he despite his better judgement begins to fall for anna cotter,then he discovers that she is a cousin of his brother-in-law. she confides in him her ability to astral project and after verification that she is indeed on the level, he reluctantly believes her.
richard kingston is the psycopath who has abducted jane. he believes that she loves him and he can't bear to be without her. he intends to kill anyone who gets in his way. he begins to realise that somehow anna has discovered his identity and he flees to France with jane, hidden in the back of his jeep. anna follows but crossing water is a major problem,she is unable to cross great expanses of water without dire consequences. she is unable to return to her physical body to alert anyone of jane's whereabouts. eventually anna is discovered but she is in a coma. when no one can wake her and she is taken to hospital. she eventually awakes but has lost her memory.
