Your fear is a hundred percent dependent on you for its survival, says Steve Maraboli. And it is so true. Fear is different from caution. Caution is common sense, where we take care. Not putting our hands into a fire, or jumping from the terrace of a building is caution and common sense. That is not fear. Fear is an abnormal feeling that grips us, when we imagine an unwanted scenario in the future, which is likely to cause us physical, mental, emotional, financial, social, or psychological harm. The fears that we have are never in the present moment. The present moment is so narrow, so small that it is impossible to have fear. Fear is in our imaginations and it always about later, or tomorrow, or next month or next year, never about now. The power of imagination is what gives rise to fear. The power of imagination is a highly creative source which can be used for planning, for visualizing, for creating something useful. But it has a flip side, it also can be used, or rather it uses us, for fear, anxiety, worry, dread, stress and such other negative emotions.
Why is there so much fear in our lives? It is so, only because the future is unknown. If the future was known, even if we did not like the outcome, there would be more of acceptance rather than fear. But the unknown factor makes it fearful. Fear of flying, fear of insects, fear of poverty, fear of disease and death, fear of rejection, fear of a loved one going away, fear of hunger and starvation, fear of ruin of name and reputation---all these are more that have not occurred but might do so, in the future and that is enough to scare us, paralyze us, and prevent us from living our lives to the fullest, freely and with joy.

This book, which is the third in the series of books titled ‘Speaking of” (the other three being Speaking of love and happiness) is a collection of 30 powerful and motivating quotes on the subject of fear. On reading these quotes, one can draw upon the energy and wisdom in them, and can start one’s journey away from fear and towards freedom, joy and love, as of today. Happy journey
