Sophie and the Stranger

An excerpt:

At King’s Cross, she belted through the ticket stations as quickly as she could. Her train was still there, and she managed to get on board, with a few seconds to spare. Walking down the narrow central aisle, she worked her way past various people who were struggling to put luggage away, control kids, and so on until she reached her seat.

There was a man sitting there. Not just any man, Sophie observed, but a handsome hunk of a fella. He must have been all of six foot, dressed sharply in a suit, and a broad face with a strong jawline. His skin was slightly tanned, she noticed, so he must get out of the office quite a bit. He turned from his book and looked at her.
