T.S. Arthur was an American editor and popular author of fiction and non-fiction works. He became famous for his novels – ‘Ten Nights in a Bar-Room’ and ‘What I Saw There’, - which helped demonize alcohol in the eyes of the American public. Most of his works were oriented on disseminate the values, beliefs, and habits that defined respectable, decorous middle-class life in antebellum America. “Something for a Cold” is the moral story about pernicious influence of the alcohol on human life. Mr. Green, working, kind-hearted man, sent his little son Henry to Mr.Brandy to send him a pint of good Irish whiskey - Mr. Green had a cold and he believed that bowl of hot whiskey-punch would cure him. After few minutes Henry returned, looking pale and frightened, and narrated, that neighbor Mr.Brooks, being drunk, struck on the head his daughter.
