Solomon Seal is a freak. A bullied freak. Someone almost born to take blows from those bigger and better than he. Starting another hateful year at Renishaw Middle School, he finds the school days aren't as bad as he feared. They're worse. And better. He makes a couple of good friends. He actually gets to do ordinary stuff for the first time in his life. He hangs out with friends. They plan fake ads in stores. They even take a disabled boy out on an expedition to the mysterious Darkley Woods. Many things turn on this day. They get close to some prehistoric cave paintings and the ancient handprints of the artists. In local legend, one is the hand of the Darkley Troll. Solomon finds there's something about him that connects him to the Legend of Darkley Troll. A mysterious sonnet leads him and his friends to make a clandestine visit to the caves. Transported to the ancient world of the artists, they find the legend of the Darkley Troll blown away by something far more terrifying. And yet Solomon has to fight it. The world will change for good or ill depending on this. Will he conquer his terror?
