Beginning in post-war England and loosely based on fact, this is the tale of a young and naïve English girl from a prosperous, well to do family. She is swept off her feet by a charming Rhodes Scholar studying in the United Kingdom and rushes into marriage. Following him to his home in Rhodesia as a new bride, her dreams are soon shattered as she finds herself in a situation beyond her imagination and unable to ask her family for help. She is forced to make a choice, one that she may regret for the rest of her life. As the fate of her family’s farm falls heavily on her shoulders and she struggles to bring it to success she carries a dreadful secret...
About this book
Loosely based on fact and inspired by the author's grandmother, this book was started over thirty years ago, before the farm invasions, but was only completed after circumstances forced the author to leave Rhodesia, now Zimbabwe. Having spent her teenage years living happily on a Rhodesian farm, it is her comment on the plight of so many hard working farmers and her protest against the farm invasions.
