Some heroes walk on two feet! But there are some heroes who walk on four! This is the story of a four legged hero. He was a puppy who came to be known as "Sergeant Stubby."
Stubby was found by soldiers training in the yard of Yale College. They were training to go to war! The little puppy wandered around the men. It was hard work training for war but to the puppy it looked like they were all having fun! He wanted to play too!
"Look!" said one of the men. His name was John Robert Conroy. His friends called him Bob. "What a cute looking puppy. Come here little dog."
Stubby came to him. And Stubby followed him. He followed John all the way into World War I.
