As we looked at the stage that was sitting on the footprint of the temple, and saw the Ghanaian flag waving in the breeze, it was as if the stage became the temple and the flag became the Angel Moroni. I felt in my soul more audible than a physical voice:

"The temple is here at long last. You have done what I asked you to do. You can go home now. Safe Journey."

On August 16, 1998, Elder Glenn L. Pace and his wife, Jolene, left for Africa. Called to serve in the Africa West Area for three years, they learned to adapt, to thrive, and most of all, to love the Saints.

Filled with inspiring personal experiences from the simple (coping with African travel eccentricities) to the miraculous (the announcement of a West African temple), Safe Journey is more than a journal or a travelogue. In the book, Elder Pace shares the eternal lessons he learned in Africa:

  • There is a master plan and it is the Master's plan.
  • The rolling out of the kingdom in accordance with the Master's plan cannot be stopped.
  • Each of us has a role to play in the Master's plan and each of us can make a difference.
  • The Savior's love for his children is universal, and the doctrines of the kingdom have a universal appeal.

In Africa, when you leave on a trip those around you . . . simply say "safe journey." This inspiring book chronicles Elder Pace's journey to Africa and his service there as he labored to help the Saints make their own "safe journey" back to our Heavenly Father.
