'Safari Park' is one of a series of 5 books which focus on developing music across the primary/elementary curriculum. A special feature is that of suggesting ways in which visiting musicians can support and liaise with schools to enhance the music curriculum. The activities begin with simple exploration of sound and pictorial notation. They progress into developing compositions through awareness of musical elements, rhythm, melody and accompaniments. Ways of recording are explored, as are ways to develop percussion and other instrument compositions into vocal compositions. Throughout, there are tips for visiting musicians such as peripatetic teachers, local Hubs, to support generalist class teachers. In this way the materials promote the concept of liaison between musicians and schools.
