In the final days of World War Two Berlin falls to the Soviet Army. The Soviet Army searches for and finds the remains of Adolph Hitler and announces to the world that Hitler is dead. Soviet Major Yakov Michonovich, a trusted and loyal intelligence officer, is called into a hastily created intelligence field office and informed that the body found was not that of Hitler and that Hitler escaped Berlin several days prior to it's fall. Major Michonovich is informed that the world must not find out that Hitler escaped the grasp of the Soviet Army and that Hitler must be hunted down in secret and eliminated. Major Michonovich's assignment is to pose as a German war criminal and join other war criminals as they make their way to South America in hopes of uncovering information on Hitlers location.

Major Michonovich Makes his way to Western controlled Germany. Then with help of other questionable Germans who he convinces that he is a wanted war criminal Michonovich travels to Italy and then to Brazil. In Brazil he is befriended by other Germans who came before him and some locals helping the Germans settle in Brazil. It is not long before the hunter becomes the hunted as he encounters threats from Germans, an old friend, war criminal hunters and a power struggle inside the Soviet Union. Michonovich travels from Europe to Brazil and back to the Soviet union to uncover the truth about Hitler, a true that even he does not believe.
