Prequel to the Immortal Hearts Series

It is 1780 in New Orleans and shy Margaret Francis has an undesirable problem: an irrefutable attraction to the sharp-tongued half-blind telepathist Seth Kade. Margaret would love nothing so much as to twine her arms around his handsome neck and kiss him silly amongst the roses of her maman's garden.

Too bad Seth Kade is insufferable.

And too bad Seth Kade is a telepathist. They are all terrible people, like Margaret's grandfather.

Both Seth and Margaret are Kaspians, shape-shifting blood tigers as old as time itself. Or at least, Seth is. Not so old is Margaret who, at twenty-two, is still considered a "baby" in the Kaspian world. Margaret has lived her life trying to balance the proprieties of the human world against the necessities of her immortal life. The fact that her maman is human only makes balancing more difficult.

And Seth has his own problems, for Margaret is his amati, his immortal mate.

To Seth, Margaret represents children, a future, and happiness. Seth will only have one amati, and he can't afford to let Margaret slip through his fingers. Enough tragedy has already struck his family in that respect.

Too bad Margaret is so exasperatingly shy. So infuriatingly stubborn.

So terrifyingly vulnerable.

Too bad Margaret's grandfather is so determined to plunge the New World into war.

Too bad, for it doesn't make much difference.
