Mohamed Mahmoud street is one of the many Downtown streets. It’s not very different from the other streets of this district of Cairo.
There are shops, restaurants, marketplace… People living here are amicable and friendly towards each other, as well as towards tourists. Everyone coming here is greeted with a warm-hearted „As-Salamu Alaykum”.
The life on Mohamed Mahmoud street goes at usual pace, just like on every other street in this district of the city – people go shopping, meet their friends, prepare food, spend their time out on the roofs of old tenements. Everything is so „normal”. And then, on one winter day this „normality” disappeared and everything became completely different… and this happened on the day of 25th January, 2011.
The publication is a chronological record of events that occurred in Mohamed Mahmoud street which connects Tahrir Square with the building of the Ministry of Interior.
The street became the main battleground for street fighting between the demonstrators and the police. The street changed entirely for 18 long days and nights.
