Brian Jeffries, an ex-army sniper, returns to New York from two tours of duty in Iraq, planning to attend college to become an architect. After all the death and destruction he had seen, Brian now wants to create and build instead of tear down and destroy. At twenty-one, he fully understands the realities of war and the fragility of life.

The problem is that wherever Brian goes, violence seems to follow.

He lands a part time job as a bouncer to pick up some extra money. On his third night on the job, he hears a commotion in the alley behind the bar where he witnesses a mob murder. Unable to turn a blind eye to violence, Brian gets involved in trying to bring the murderer to justice. Along the way, he comes to the realization that he does not like what he has become, but he finally accepts his role in life and returns to the shadows.
