Dr. Teesy Cole has been given a job to do. She is to head an expedition on former penal world, now abandoned, where it is suspected there may be ruins left over from the enemy's history. If she is right, it could give them the information they need to deal with the current alien threat.
Captain Thom (Hopper) Warrant is in charge of the unit that will take her to the ruins and see she gets home again with her findings. He's never met anyone like her before, and it isn't easy to see her as just another job.
The Lancer's quickly find they may have bigger issues at hand. The Redemption has gone dark in orbit. The expedition cannot contact anyone off planet at all, and enemy scouts are sent to check out their presence which means they do not have time for feelings, especially these kind.
