“The Book of the City of Ladies, published in 1405, is said to be the most famous literary work of the author Christine de Pizan.

This lengthy novel is the second novel written by Christine de Pezan. She has used vernacular French language in this book. However, there is frequent use of Latinate syntax and conventions within her French prose.

It is believed that “The Book of the City of Ladies” was written as the author’s response to “The Romance of the Rose” which was written by Jean de Meun.

It is said that Jean de Meun misogynist beliefs, and Christine tried to combat those beliefs by creating an allegorical city of ladies in her book “The Book of the City of Ladies.”
