The book is full of fun and adventure and takes the girls all over the world in different time zones. Many strange, unbelievable and very scary things happen to them. Polly Pippin, her cousin Alison, are best friends Lily and Lucy, they own Brown Sugar Café, and it’s the place to go.
Polly and Alison fall in and out of love with Piers and Miles who are twins with Rebels Zack and Knox, but don’t know it. Zack and Knox were stolen at birth by the Dark Universe and trained as Warrior Rebels. They want control of the earth to make Earthbeings slaves or Warriors. And it gives the Rebels direct access to the First Universe and will make them evil controllers of the Multiverse.
A gypsy rebel calls at Byzantine Crescent to sell her wares. It’s pouring, so the girls invite the gypsy in. Charlotte, Piers sister and Lily and Lucy call round and the gypsy threaten to kill them. A Freeflyer Captain Jamie Brummel arrives, and the gypsy disappears, leaving her basket on the table. The girls are told not to open the basket, but they do. Polly and India, her young sister, and Lily and Lucy and Fifi, the dog, are sucked into the basket. Alison is left alone and breaks down in tears, will she ever see them again.
Piers unwittingly annoys the Rebel Commander Chief Rekrap by interrupting his lunch, so he zaps him to Iceland in the middle of nowhere. Before he freezes to death, he sees a hut, which according to the Icelanders is where the Devil lives. He gets to the hut and finds Hamish. Hamish, Polly’s brother is a pilot for Ice Air, and the Rebels had hijacked the plane.
Something falls through the roof of the hut, it is Steve, Brad’s Capriole the film star’s director. He had upset Rekrap, so was also zapped there. Under the hut, they find a tunnel, but it’s the Rebels tunnel of death. As they are getting ready to leave, they hear a terrible noise.
Piers climbs back into the hut just as a polar bear breaks in, she has a cub in her arms. She has a bear trap on her leg. Piers managed to open the trap, and clean the wound. He looked into the mother bears eyes and promised he would look after her cub. He cuddled the bear through the night till she died and wept at the cruelty of man. When he woke, the big bear was gone leaving the cub behind.
It was time to go down the death tunnel, Steve and Hamish go in and Piers with the bear cub starts to enter, but the wall snaps close, and he is left alone. Eventually, he leaves the hut with the cub and tries to find a way out trudging through the cold and snow. He finally collapses in the middle of nowhere.
Miles is captured and is taken to a Rebel phantom home owned by Zack and Knox. Because Knox and Miles seem to be getting on well, Zack falls out with Knox, double zaps him and it nearly kills him. The Freeflyers arrive and think they have captured Rebels. Although Miles protests, Zack says he is Knox, and the Freeflyers pretend to believe him. They take Miles out to interrogate him, but it’s a double bluff, they know it is Miles. Piers was waiting for him having been rescued by the Freeflyers from the snow. After the emotional reunion they are dressed as Rebels and are sent back to the hut to rescue Hamish and Steve. Polly with Fifi who had tagged along, ends up in the hut in the snow at the same time as the boys. They go down the tunnel and the boys lose Polly and jump down a waterfall into quicksand, is this the end for them.
Everyone else is sucked into the basket ends up in the Tunnel of death with Hamish and Steve, and are trapped by Rebels. They send Polly with an invisibility watch to capture Piers and Miles, or they will kill Hamish and India.
But it was too late. They could feel the bear’s hot breath on their heads. They were within paws reach. The leading bear lifted her nose sniffed and suddenly stopped. Were the Freeflyers and Earthbeings going to be dinner or were they saved?
