In April of 1975, radical Marxist Pol Pot and his “Khmer Rouge” overthrew Cambodian government and King Norodom and proclaimed “This is now year zero for Cambodia” and that it’s society was about to be “purified”. Capitalism, western culture, city life, religion and all foreign influences were to be extinguished in favor of an outrageous form of peasant Communism. Thus began the four year long “autogenecide” of almost two million Cambodian people that didn’t fit in with Pol Pot and the Khmer rouges’ vision of their “Utopian” society that ended when Pol Pot was tried publicly and imprisoned, where he ultimately died and was cremated on a piles of used car and truck tires and buried in an above ground tomb at Anlong Vend, Cambodia. This is the story of a traveler and his wife’s trip to see the “Killing Fields”, Pot’s tomb and the 1,000 year old temple at Angkor Wat and it’s 5 towers near the city of Siem Reap. The fascinating story of what the travelers learn is told here in text and photographs!
