In vitro propagation and cultivation of plant parts like seed, roots, shoots, leaves and different part of plants in suitable nutrient culture media in aseptic condition referred to as plant tissue culture. Plant tissue and cells in vitro generated to form whole plant due to totipotency nature of each plant cell. Totipotency is the ability of cells to retain their meristematic state and differentiate to form complete plant. The knowledge to obtained from plant tissue cultures has contributed to our understanding of metabolism, differentiation, growth, morphogenesis and internal structure of plant cells. Further recent developments in plant tissue culture have helped to produce several pathogen free plants, besides the synthesis of several comercially important biologically active compounds act as a bioreactor or secondary metabolites.
