The Unseelie court ruled the world a long time ago before my time. Once they own the land and all who wander on it. They were a strong race but foolish court, now we of the Seelie court have them hiding for their lives in the shadows. Every year we gain more power and push the Unseelie towards extinction. Soon, very soon they will disappear from the world.
It is their own fault their days are numbered. They tried to use the Seelie court as their slaves forcing us to do their bidding. When we started fighting back they foolishly created the human race to protect them but the humans came with new diseases that killed the Unseelie court faster than we could.
Then, in a rally Queen Olympia, the last Queen before Hekuba cast an unimaginable spell. She tore the souls of every Seelie court person in two and threw the pieces out in different directions. As she hoped, the spell shattered our souls and stopped us dead in our tracks. Many of us died of pure heart ache. For a time the battle paused while we tried to learn to live without desire in our hearts. Then we did what had to be done. We sought out and found the missing piece of their souls and married and bonded with them so our souls would once again be complete.
The spell was meant to destroy us but instead it made us stronger. Well, that is once we found our heart’s desire. I’ve lived for nearly fifteen years now with only half a soul. The pain has become more intense with each passing year. So intense in fact that I’ve decided to hibernate in the trunk of a Douglas fir. And not just any Douglas fir, a Douglas fir full of Slaugh power and only half a league from the Unseelie palace. I chose that tree because I knew I could feed on the Slaugh magic and it would keep me strong for the day the spirit of my heart’s desire woke me.
