Money is more than ink on paper or a mere means of exchange. To most. it is a safety net, though a rather questionable one. If not money, what then is a reliable safety net? God alone. Paradoxically, one can be feel safe only in surrender to God. To be stripped of a fake safety net is to be armed with a genuine one. To be voluntarily stripped of money is to be willingly armed with God.
My experience of going to the Himalayas, with a one-way ticket. and without a penny in my pocket, taught me this lesson, in all its glory. It demonstrated to me how God knows no order of difficulty in manifesting for his devotee all that he needs at any and every point of time. After one such voyage. one gradually learns to operate in his entire life totally from this space of surrender, trusting that God always takes care, even when it appears that He is not.
