It has been seventeen years since the end of the Black Reckoning, a plague that killed almost ninety percent of the population, and all that remains are seven quarantine zones around the world. Melanie Lockhart, a seventeen year old who lives in Zone Seven with her twin brother Tristan and mother Marissa, discovers an old prophecy written sometime before the plague. Melanie becomes obsessed with the prophecy and begins believing it is about her and her brother. It states that if she kills Tristan she will receive the gift of everlasting life, but if she doesn’t he will kill her and receive the gift for himself. Melanie must decide if she is willing to sacrifice her own flesh and blood for a chance at immortality and live with the consequences if she is wrong.
