'Ovoid Diaspora' follows the main characters introduced in 'Ovoid, Illinois – Fictionalized Accounts of Inconsequential People'. Cher Billingham, Duncan Reynard, Gene, Daedelus and Mylo leave the microscopic Midwestern town of Ovoid to seek their fortunes and further their educations, formally and in the school of hard knocks. As the story begins, Cher is an aspiring journalist at the University of Illinois/Urbana writing a music column for the school paper. Duncan, struggling with finances at Eastern Illinois University hitches a ride in a black hearse which changes his life and advances his music career and his love life. Gene Bardon devises a Master Plan to rule the music industry in Nashville with co-conspirators, Daedelus and Mylo, which leads to black-mail and murder. Meanwhile, the town of Ovoid holds an election with a surprising dark horse in the running as Cher's father, Bud, tries to regain the mayoralty and a New Age religious cult prepares for extra-terrestrial redemption. Also featured are old characters and new as the tumult of the 1960's plays havoc with the social order to the delight of some and to the dismay of others. Ovoid, Illinois; a place and a state of mind that a few escape from and many try frantically to deal with.
